Powell Place (Nob Hill) - San Francisco, USA

My daughter and I recently spent 1 week in San Francisco and stayed at Powell Place (Nob Hill) booked through the Geo Group.

We had a wonderful week. The accommodations were great. The place was spacious, clean, extremely well located and the staff was great! I would recommend the Powell Place to anyone planning on visiting San Francisco.

Pueblo Real - Costa Rica

This is a photo of our son Evan and his girlfriend Jill. We took them to Costa Rica as a university graduation present. This is a photo of them at the beach on Isla Damas across the estuary from Pueblo Real.

Tahoe Summit Village - Nevada, USA

Our Story of Visiting Tahoe Summit Village

We arrived at Tahoe Summit Village for the 3rd week of January, 2005 and brought with us a whole heap of snow. About 18" fell on the night of our arrival and a similar amount dumped on the region mid-way through the week. This made for spectacular skiing conditions and scenery. The word that always sprang up to describe this scenery was STUNNING.

The office at Tahoe Summit Village was extremely helpful during the snowstorm of our arrival, staying open a bit later than usual and guiding us by phone up the somewhat confusing roads to the summit. Impressively, staff kept the parking lot clear all week.

On our first day of cross country skiing on two foot deep snow, we had a setback in that my husband's back chose to "go out" in a bad way. He was in agony for a day, but the resort's guide to local services helped us find an excellent Chiropractor (Glenn Miller) who got us back skiing for most of the rest of the week.

Just by luck we had rented a SUV type vehicle and boy did we need it! Many roads were restricted to vehicles with chains on the tires or 4-wheel drive. Drivers generally took it fairly slowly - or it seemed that way to us Canadians - but the roads often were icy or had sheer drops on one side, so driving an appropriate vehicle was a must. This should be on the advisory sheet for the resort.

Our best meal was at the Chart House which has wonderful views of Lake Tahoe. Sunset came early however so most of the meal did not enjoy the view, however the cuisine made up for it. Less expensive but still a great meal was Chevy's, a Mexican restaurant. Most of our meals we made ourselves in the well-equiped kitchen in the unit.

We have great memories of the breathtaking beauty of South Lake Tahoe, and can still imagine the amazing feeling of crisp clean air washed lungs after a great day of skiing.
